In 2001, SkyLine
employees wanted to raise money for a fellow employee, Tom
Colvard, who had been diagnosed at that time with amyloidosis,
a rare disease in which the body accumulate deposits of abnormal
proteins which attack major organs in the body. The employees
wanted to do something special for him that went above and beyond
the average fundraiser of bake sales and raffles. He was serving
on the committee when his disease was detected. So, Ride for
Life was born.

This first-ever ride resulted in donations topping
$4,000, which was
a great
achievement for a first-time venture. Sadly, Tom passed away
in 2002 after a long fight with the disease.
The benefit ride has raised thousands
of dollars to provide
assistance to many area residents by offering financial support
when drastic situations arise.

A newly-designed logo was created in 2005 by local artist Bessie
Clay to begin our fourth year with this event.
